This really is the best way to preface these photos.
Last week E fell face first while getting out of the car. She cried until she got to use a Buzz Lightyear ice pack. An hour later, she went to swimming lessons. After using the kick board to keep her face out for a while, she forgot and went under water--only to come out screaming. She sat on my lap for all of about 3 minutes until she decided it didn't hurt nearly as bad as missing swimming lessons. And that was the end of her complaints.
And the start of everyone's questions.
For the next three days, her black eye morphed from 'scraped and swollen' to 'adorable makeup, smokey eye' and finally into 'horror film zombie eye'. Apparently black eyes amongst four year olds are not common here. Rocky swears it's normal for all children to repeatedly get black eyes but no on has explained this to the Thai's
I've gotten LOTS of, "What happened?" and looks that said, "You are clearly unfit to have children!"
And E got lot's of, "Oh no! Your face! You poor thing! Are you alright!"
It has gotten to the point that as soon as someone starts staring at her she says, "But my eye is okay though."
I might need to teach her to say, "My eye is okay and there is no such thing as the perfect mother." And then have someone teach it to her in Thai.
Vi's head almost brushing the power lines. Not really, she'd have to be Andre Kirilenko standing on Rocky's shoulders to reach them.

Black out the other eye and see what people say.
That does look like a bad black eye, but we always have our boys sport the goose-egg-on-the-forehead look. Do Thai children run and jump? That's where we get most of our injuries. Or it could be that since they are not the skin color of celestial white, that their bruises don't show as easily. Just a thought. And no, you are not a bad mother.
That looks so painful! I'm pretty sure Rocky is only thinking of our family when he speaks so all children getting black eyes. Our kids have had some doozies. Grandpa Ricker is one of the worst right now after recovering for a skin cancer removal. Elie is cute even with her black eye.
