songkran

This last week we celebrated our favorite Thai holiday again. Here are some of our highlights:

Now that Vi is no longer afraid of water (leftover trauma from last years Songkran) we decided to repeat what caused all the water-fearing trauma in the first place. On our first day of Songkran, we headed out in a tuk tuk to cruise some of the back sois by our apartment. This time we came prepared with water guns.

The streets were lined with people with huge buckets full of ice water. When our tuk tuk driver (who was inside with the windows up) would drive past a group of people, he would stop and park the tuk tuk, while we, stuck in the back, would get buckets of ice water dumped on us. Let's just say, Vi didn't like it any better this year.
When we were completely soaked, we stopped at a local mall where there was a water fight for kids under 10 going on. Rocky quickly jumped into the fray. He called out asking at what age is it okay to aim for the eyes. He did pretty well until it was ten against one--apparently he is over the age where it's okay to aim for the eyes.
Elie stopped long enough to eat a deep fried oreo from our favorite Corn Dog place. Not exactly traditional Songkran food...

Or next Songrkan stop was Safari World. Or favorite drive thru zoo. Right after we drove into the park we saw this ostrich. It was stopping traffic. I rolled down my window to take some pictures and it ran over. I was going to make friends with it but Rocky rolled up my window--just in time for the ostrich to attack our car.

Vi was pretty much, "meh" about Safari World.

Elie wasn't too cool about us rolling down her window while this lion growled at us. We tried it a couple times, she always very quickly rolled it back up.

On Songkran, no one is safe, not toll booth operators and especially not scooter drivers. We saw one driver with ski goggles on. This guy is in plastics.

The water fight goes on for three days--pretty much non stop. On the last night, we needed to go to an atm. I went to get out of the car when I noticed these kids. I told Rocky to go instead, he got halfway there and ran back to the car. We drove to a safer one.

That looks so FUN!!! I would love if they had a day like that for P.G., but it would have to be in July or August!
