Ex pat summers are pretty great. We get to spend a lot of time on vacation with family in our home country, eating delicious, highly processed food. And in exchange, all we have to do is travel for nearly 30 hours and deal with a 13 hour time change. Twice.
Small price to pay.
On our way home to Bangkok. Our total travel time was about 30 hours. After our first flight Salt Lake City-LAX, which is about an hour long, E said, "That was our long flight right? So we're almost home!"
Here she sleeps off some serious in-flight movie time in Tokyo.
Our flight went as well as could be expected. The thing about flying for so long with kids, is that even when it's pretty good--it's still horribly bad.
It's always a huge relief to pick up our bags in Bangkok. Even if we are picking up enough bags for the entire flight.
We landed around 11 pm on Tuesday night and Eliot went to school the next morning. Not looking like this. This was taken a few days later. I have no recollection of what she wore her first day, or even how we got her to school. In fact, that whole first week back is a giant blur.A blur of waking up before the sun and falling asleep on the floor at 6 PM while all my kids are still awake, running around me.
This is what jet lag looks like.
"Take whatever you want to bed. Just don't get out again." This is what I said around 5 AM after our kids had been up since 1 AM. I took this picture after I ate the half piece of beef jerky I found under the pillow.
Still worth it.

So funny! Makes me wonder how my mom used to feel. Granted we only had to travel about half the time going to the EU.
Thanks for your sacrifice. We are so thankful you're willing to come!
