blue house.

I'm writing this blogpost in a desperate attempt to stay up past 7:30 tonight. We landed in Bangkok yesterday at 10 am and it's been a battle to stay awake during the day and keep kids asleep during the night.

This summer we were able to tour the home I lived in when I was age 1-9. This is the longest consecutive time I have ever spent in one place. It was a special experience to tour it with my siblings and parents and share our memories of the house--also confess to past grievenses.

One of my favorite places was this breakfast nook. I remember it with a high chair and stuffed full of kids. We didn't have a dining room so we ate all our meals here and ever since a breakfast nook has been on my dream house list.
When we lived in the house there was a laundry shoot that led to no where. No on knew where the stuff you put in went, it just disappeared. I had a poor habit as using this as a vehicle for revenge. Whenever someone did anything that upset me, I would take something of there's and throw it down the lost shoot. The owners of the home said when they were doing renovations in the basement, the tour down part of a wall and out of a newly exposed hole in the wall came toys, stuffed animals and loads of monopoly money.

My apologies, siblings.
The kitchen was my mom's first of many different kitchen remodels. I love the wall of light.
The stairs Abby convinced me to ride down in my laundry basket, to save my self the chore of carrying my laundry downstairs on laundry day. I will brag that I stayed in the basket for the entire ride and faired much better than the other times I fell down these stairs. They are not forgiving.
The crawlspace at the top of the stairs where my brothers told me was full of the ghosts of dead pets. And live snakes, not their ghosts, the actual snakes.

The room Hannah was born in.
The original fireplace. We didn't have fancy, knitted Christmas stockings. In our family you were expected to provide one of your own socks from your sock drawer on Christmas eve. It was here that I came up with the ingenious idea of putting out a pair of tights. Santa wasn't impressed and seemed especially stingy that year.

And one of my favorite rooms in the house, the green bathroom. I spent many hours hiding out here. It was also the first bathroom I learned to clean and I blame all my poor cleaning habits on this room. Do you have any idea how hard it is to tell if you've finished cleaning if every surface is already green?

The present owners have done such a great job restoring and maintaining this beautiful home and we loved getting to walk down memory lane again especially since no one pushed me down the stairs this time.
