horses, ponies, unicorns, pegasus

Our sweet, little Violet is four. She is completely in love with horses, unicorns and pegasus right now. Rocky and I picked up the horses in the Zurich airport and he came through with this cake. Violet loved it.
We bought this rocking horse for Violet last December. We saw them at a wood market in Chiang Mai. There were small, medium and large. I convinced Rocky to settle for the medium. He was unable to convince himself to buy just one. The shipping to Bangkok was incredibly minimal and in two weeks I was forced to find a place to store these two of these horses. As soon as possible I had Winston take it to the birthday party of a friend. His friends's parents might never speak to us again, but the boy loves it.

We successfully hid it from Violet by telling taking the parenting high road. I overheard her telling a friend, "Don't go in that closet! My birthday present is in there with lots of cockroaches all over it." We brought it out for her birthday breakfast (a birthday breakfast is what you have when your parents have plans to go out for sushi that night). Turns out Violet is not much of a morning person. When she saw it she said, "I wanted the biggest one." She's since come around.

Since the last friend party Eliot had resulted in Violet hiding upstairs and taking a clandestine nap, I asked her if she would rather us just do something as a family. Nope, she was instant on having a friend party. I relented as I'm never sure where we will be next year. We invited a host of four year olds over and all my worries over Vi seemed unfounded. She had a great time having her friends over to her house and showing them her favorite puzzles and our incredibly unsafe swing-trampoline set up then swimming in the presents they brought her and eating enough green frosting to check the color of any personal output. As she was falling asleep that night she asked me, "Mom, can I turn five tomorrow?"

This girl has our hearts and her Encyclopedia of Horses and Ponies has her heart.
