The other day I had the chance to go shopping with Sarah on a Saturday afternoon. This is a somewhat rare occasion. Mostly because I work during the day, but also because Sarah thinks I blow too much money when I go to the store. I believe she mentions something about me going for one or two items and coming home with a "a few" more. This is almost always because I just happen to find bargains that I cannot afford to pass up.
With Sarah doing the majority of our shopping, it took me a while before I was introduced to the Thai grocery market experience. At first, I thought everything looked fairly similar, but simply priced much cheaper than I had gotten used to in Switzerland. That was until I ran into the frozen meat section.....
How do you not get excited when your presented with the options of Wild Boar Meat or Frozen Crocodile Tenderloins? Somehow, Sarah found a way. Me, on the other hand, I was ecstatic.
I quickly began loading up the shopping cart with both both of these superb choices and thinking about some of the great ways I was going to be able to use them. I think Sarah could sense trouble with the amount of time I had spent in the meat department and made her way back to curb my enthusiasm. She limited me to only one of the two. I must admit it was a tough choice, but I finally made my decision to go with crocodile.
As soon as it was placed in the shopping cart I immediately started thinking about how to best use my crocodile tenderloin and who I could invite over to share this fine cuisine I was dreaming up. I have often said tacos can be made from about anything and they will still taste great. I figured the croc tenderloin would be a great way to find out. We invited Dan and Amy and a few friends over for a Sunday afternoon meal. To ensure they would accept our invitation I didn't mention what the menu would include.
The preparation of the tacos was as easy as I had expected. I simply chopped up the croc and through it in the skillet with a little taco seasoning. I then got a little soft and threw in some hamburger in to accompany the croc meat.
Sadly to say, this is as close as I got to a picture of the finished good. It was probably because I was too busy pounding my delicious croc tacos and soaking in the praise everyone in the group was singing about them. Ok, the last part may be a bit of an overstatement. In all seriousness, the tacos turned out pretty tasty. Believe it or not, I think my croc meat experience held true to the saying of everything tastes like chicken, but this might have been a little chewier. It would probably best be described as tastes like chicken and chews like squid. While not a big fan of squid, when it comes to croc meat I figure the chewiness just allows you a little more time to savor the great taste of croc tacos!

Wow. That is about all I've got. Sarah is a good sport. Of course this would be something my boys would completely love.
I am nauseous right now. I think it is worse that you added the hamburger.
My chances of coming to visit just went way up, as long as you guarantee me some croc tacs. I thought the Swiss chocolate was a good reason to visit but the croc tacs have to blow that away.
I was bummed I missed your call last night. Call again soon.
PS Awesome post.
Ha ha you kill me Rock! I'm glad your experience with croc was better than mine. I agree with Mindy...
I wouldn't have thought it could get worse than croc tacs, but I'm agreeing with Mindy...they even looked worse with hamburger mixed in. Dad, on the other hand is dieing to find some specialty meat store and break out the grill. I doubt even the Marboro cook book will have any crocodile recipes,
P.S. Bring on the pictures of Violet.
Ha ha ha! You and Al are two peas in a pod!!
