We have World Cup Fever over here. And by "over here" I mean, all the way on the other side of world. And by "fever" I mean, sleep depravation. And by "we" I mean, Rocky.
The games are running for us at 11 pm, 2 am, and 5 am. It's like they were scheduled by Winston.
This hasn't stopped us from being excited. We love the World Cup. I can't decide if it's the international excitement or that it reminds me of Harry Potter.
This year we all filled out brackets (except Winston). We might be refilling out brackets if none of our teams make it out of group play.
Violet was going with mainly Asian teams, in honor of her Asian birth. But as soon as I threw out the name, Greece, she was hooked. It sounds a lot like one of her friend's names and he has A LOT of trains. Including a Diesel 10 that lights up and talks. Who knows, maybe Greece could pull it off. Have crazier things happened?
Eliot's been pretty indoctrinated by her Dutch best friend, but we were glad to see she had an optimistic USA beating the Netherlands (or as she calls it, in a hushed, magical voice, "The Neverlands") in the final. Granted, if it had been an option, she would have had PG listed as her champion.
Rocky and I filled out our separately, but ended up with pretty similar results. I resisted the impulse to go all Eastern European and he wisely chose to not let Brazil carry too much of his hopes.
Basically every night an alarm goes off at some point in the middle of the night and I hear Rocky get out of bed. I roll over and sleepily mumble something that is supposed to be, "Bring me Winston when he wakes up."
Then after I wake up and realize he watched all three night games, I email him this http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/world-cup-2014-third-chinese-man-dies-sleep-deprivation-after-48-hour-tv-football-binge-1453162
In case you are wondering who to cheer for. This should help.
