Two days before Winston turned 18 months, he was standing on a chair in the dining room and it tipped over. He hit face first on our tile floor. There was a lot of blood. He cut the inside of his mouth. After he stopped bleeding and calmed down, I bathed him and we headed off to the newest mall to buy Eliot's new piano book.
He was fine in the stroller but as soon as we got home, he only wanted to by held. His lip was pretty swollen so I assumed he was very sore. I held him, walked him and took him for a lot of bike rides (so I wouldn't have to hold him). The next day we were at the pool and I lifted him up above my head. He gave me an almost smile and I realized his two front teeth had been chipped off into tiny triangles. Like baby orc teeth.
We went to the dentist and after the xray she announced the roots were undamaged but the nerves were exposed (hence all the pain he had been in). She recommended we apply two crowns. She offered for me to go home and discuss it with my husband. Rocky was in India so I said, "No need. Can we do it right now."
I was a little worried about how they would keep him still--I can't keep him still for more than thirty seconds at a time. They apparently were well versed in this as they had a board with swaddling material with velcro and arm and leg tie downs. It was all bright pink and minnie mouse and Winston hated it. But not because it was pink, he's favorite snuggly is a hot pink towel. With his entire body swaddled up, his head was the only thing you could see. It was incredibly sad but also a tiny bit hilarious. Tiny, tiny bit.
The procedure was thirty minutes and screamed his heart out the entire time. The dentist was nervous all the screaming would upset Violet. During the procedure Violet only look at us once, that was just to make sure we were too preoccupied to notice her tv show on my phone was over and she was starting a new one. She couldn't have been less bothered.
After a few days of soft foods, little Winst is a good as new. His teeth are a bit big but we're hoping he grows into them.
Silver lining: he was really cuddly, also he didn't want his bottle and we got rid of all the bottles in the house (this was the hardest hit for Violet as we also 're-got rid of' her sippy cup.
Also--the dentist in Thailand is really cheap and the entire procedure cost us about $120.
