Since our daughters have fallen in love with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (to my dismay) Rocky has happily indulged their new obsession (also to my dismay). He bought these Halloween costumes for them when we were in the USA this summer and we tucked them away for the next few months.
One of my favorite things about living over seas is that it forces me to think ahead and be prepared. Sure, I could probably track down some ninja turtle costumes here or make them myself, but either option would cost more time, more thought and more money than buying them in June off Amazon. I'm being reminded of my excellent forethought now as I don't stress about buying presents--except for Winston who, it turns out, cannot actually play with a toy designed for 5 and up. (shocking)
On Halloween we got our kids costumes out, and fueled by their excitement, we decided to make some sort of effort to dress up. Rocky commented that my daily outfit of black/grey exercise-like clothes was pretty clothes to Shredder's outfit choice. We dug up his ninja thermals from Mongolia/Kilimanjaro, bought a can of spray paint to paint an old motorcycle helmet and some rubber gloves and headed out to the stake Halloween party.
On the way we stopped for some drinks and since 99.9% of adults neither dress up nor know what Halloween is--the workers at 7-11 were quite taken back. Not any more than all the Thai adults/children at the party or our local neighbors when we went out in full costume to trick or treat with them...
Our kids thought we were pretty cool.
Doesn't this just say, 'Merry Christmas!' to you.
Eliot asked to borrow our neighbor's longboard so she could ride around like a ninja turtle and promptly left it out in the street were it was run over. Happy halloween.
I was in charge of the organizing the neighborhood trick or treat, so you can now imagine how unorganized it was. Some how it all worked out--probably due to the excess of candy.

There were lots of great costumes.
But my favorite was ET.

Also, these two.
You know you've gotten lazy when you can't even bring yourself to walk up and down the street--preferring to drive around on the scooter.

Dentists, don't worry, we only got a tiny bit of candy.
