Last spring we made the difficult decision to move Eliot from international school for the next school year and put her in the local village school (where Violet had attended for the past year). We knew it would be difficult for her, moving schools is never easy, and she would be going to school entirely in German.
It was not a decision that we made lightly and also not a decision she was keen on when we told her. She's been in school for the past five weeks. It hasn't been easy. There have been hard morning and nights and a lot of tears. She is learning German fast and has made friends--English and German speaking. I think it gets a bit easier every day.
Swiss schools come home for lunch every day and have Wednesday afternoons off. We love getting to spend this extra time with her. I hope someday she will be glad for the language ability and to be close to friends in her own village. In the meantime, we telling ourselves we can do hard things and trying to focus on the positive.
Winston is back in the forest in addition to joining a local play school. It's all in German and he's always telling me new German words he has learned. Today he told me Ronald McDonald's name in German is "Colby" so I guess he's already completely fluent.
