the animal parade that wasn't

Since party planning isn't my strength, I let the girls plan and choose the theme of Oskar's party. The chose animal parade. I sent out themed invitations well in advance (in the form of a last minute group whatsapp message). I had hoped to do it up at park with a grillplatz nearby so I wouldn't have to clean my house but it was forecasted to rain all afternoon and I moved the party inside (it didn't rain a drop).
We celebrated Oskar's birthday a day early as we were driving to the Dolomites on his actual birthday. He had all his favorite breakfast foods (all food) and since we stayed home and watched General Conference, he got to wear all his favorite outfits. His life right now is one giant costume party--which means you would think he would love a costume party. He didn't. He hated it.

The day before I was at the store and asked him to pick out some animals to go on his cake. This personally wounded him and he started tyrannically throwing all the animals on the floor and yelling "car cake! car cake!" Luckily Rocky is capable of game changes because he busted out this incredible car cake that lit up Oskar's eyes.

While Oskar loved having cake and all his friends around, he wanted nothing to do with the animal parade and while his friends put on their costumes and danced around he sat sullenly in a corner and glared at them. When the parade was over he was back to happy.

We love this boy. He is spunky, loud and a barrel of fun. He loves his friends and his dad best of all. He has a twinkle in his eye and always a bit of mischief in his heart and we can't imagine life without him.
