Eliot turned seven last month and I am just now getting around to blogging about it.
The highlight of her birthday month was Abe coming for a visit. He came with Dan on a business trip and stayed with a few days. We showed him around all his childhood stomping grounds, school, malls, and the chocolate buffet. We did our best to lure him back to Bangkok.Eliot requested a ninja turtle birthday party. Since most of her friends aren't from America, we showed a clip of the classic tv show so they would have some idea of what to look forward to.
It think it just made them really confused. Wait, this show is about turtles and a rat that fight a Japanese guy in armor and a rhino? And whose that lady in the yellow jumpsuit?
The high light of the party for everyone was making their personal pizzas, okay it was really my ninja training. I dress up like Splinter (I put on a bathrobe and a head band) and trained them to be ninjas. Then I told them Rocky was Splinter. Turns out 7 year olds are at the perfect height to karate kick you in some painful places. Rocky's still recovering.
Rocky wowed us again with the Michealangelo cake. When you get married, you come to the relationship with expectations for your spouse, sometimes those expectations are not reality. You can either live in disappointment, or like Rocky did--learn to bake bread and decorate cakes yourself.
Sometimes I fix the apple tv.
I did make some red velvet cupcakes for Eliot's class. I think they are still trying to get the red food coloring off their fingers a month later.
We sure love Eliot. She makes life so much more exciting and happy. She is sunshine.
Yesterday she found an old box in Winston's closet (or wardrobe, as she insists on calling it) and she made it into a spaceship for Winston and Violet. One of our favorite books is Not a Box and she has taken great joy in telling me every time I ask her to clean up her box, "It's not a box, mom! It's my 'not-a-box'."
Endless amusement. I'm getting rid of all my toys and just keeping the boxes.
Winston's learning having an older sister is a great way to build character.

Love Elie's birthday party!! She is the happiest kid I know! I've always thought boxes made the best toys, and so did my kids! When I was ready to throw them away they would always say, " It's not a box!!" I really want to see Violet as Winston and Winston as Violet!!!
