mallorca

We wanted to go away for a few days to celebrate the kids surviving their first 8 weeks of school but Rocky had trips planned most of October. I told him we could meet him wherever he had meetings. He said our options were: Algeria, Oman, Morocco, Jordan and Mallorca. So Mallorca it was. This was my first solo flight with the all four kids. Luckily it was under two hours. Here we are on our way to the train station.

I'm smiling because this is right before Rocky called to tell us our hotel booking had never been finalized. He spent the next five hours waiting in line at the rental car company, while on the phone scrounging us up a last minute hotel. One of the few times the parent flying with all four kids has chosen the easier part. By the time we landed, he had it all sorted out. We made it through customs and I stood in line to get my ticket at the rental car which told me I had an estimated wait time of 1 hour 45 minutes. I've never been so glad to see Rocky.

We immediately got our car and headed off to our hotel in Magaluf. If you are remotely familiar with Mallorca, you are now probably crying from laughter. Known primarily for it's clubs and bars, we fit right in with our four young kids.
It actually turned out great. The beach near our hotel was empty and beautiful. The hotel had a buffet fit for kids with horrible tastes--our older three were in heaven. Plain pasta and canned corn every night.
We were especially glad we had our rental car. We spent most days exploring the island. The deal we made with our kids was that we would end up at a beach every day.
 They all love the beach.

Maybe not Oscar so much. But he will get there.

There's no pictures of Eliot here because I don't think she ever came in from the water. She is a water sprite. It was too cold for me but it didn't bother her.

 Enjoying a Sunday afternoon stroll.
When Oscar inevitably complains that he doesn't have his own room, I will show him this picture. We rented two hotel rooms, but here we are 5/6 of us sleeping in one room, so that nobody will wake up the baby.
We had hoped to do som real rock climbing but since we did a terrible job of planning, instead we did a ropes course that was fun for the girls. Violet was only allowed to do 1-5 but she tried multiple times to sneak onto the next levels. She even had herself roped in at one point. Winston was one month too young and begged to just be allowed to go on level W.
Mallorca has so many beautiful beaches.

Vacation morning snuggles. And Rocky on a cliff trying to get a lighthouse picture. Pretty sure we're in Rafael Nadal's driveway here.
After a couple days at the beach Rocky and I were bored stiff but it was like pulling teeth to get our kids away from the sand and water. In the end they begrudgingly admitted they had had fun in the city.

One last stop before catching our flight.
Getting some ideas for our orchard.
Because all the best souvenirs are ham, right?
